We evaluate the opportunities and challenges in Türkiye’s solar energy sector at the SolarEx fair.
Türkiye has now become a country that not only assembles solar panels, but also produces cells, the most basic unit of these panels, with its own means. Thanks to the high-tech factories established in cities such as Gaziantep, our value-added production capacity is increasing day by day. This domestic production move stands out as a strategic step both to reduce costs in the domestic market and to compete on a global scale.
SolarEX 2026 Fair vLog
Of course, not everything is rosy; The industry also has some significant hurdles and regulatory needs to overcome. Many issues, from capacity problems to changes in offset methods, are on the agenda of investors. The importance of energy storage systems has increased exponentially, especially with the transition to hourly settlement. In order for the energy produced to be used when needed, these storage solutions need to become widespread and financing channels need to be more accessible.
We saw firsthand at the fair how technology has revolutionized not only the production side, but also the maintenance and security side. Thanks to thermal camera drones, faulty panels in huge solar farms can be detected within seconds, while critical equipment such as lightning protection systems secure investments worth millions of liras. In addition, new domestic production partnerships of big brands in the field of mobility and energy prove how fast the ecosystem is growing.
As a result, we have a very serious potential and technical infrastructure in solar energy, but in order for this journey to progress faster, incentives and bureaucratic processes must be improved. Protecting investors and facilitating access to finance will enable Türkiye to step up its energy transition. Don’t forget to share your thoughts and questions about these technologies with us in the comments section.
