New details have emerged about Apple’s first foldable phone, the iPhone Ultra. Check out the device’s screen features, cooling system and differences with the iPhone 18 Pro series.
Apple’s highly anticipated first foldable smartphone, iPhone Ultra, came to the fore with important leaks before its launch, which is planned to take place in September 2026. According to the latest information from the supply chain, the screen technology and thermal analyzes of the device have begun to become clear. While the iPhone Ultra is equipped with Samsung’s M14 OLED panels, the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max models will use M16 panels, which is a higher-end technology. This strategic distinction reveals that Apple made some hardware compromises in its new foldable device, but prioritized thermal performance with a special vapor chamber technology.
iPhone Ultra Makes Some Compromise on Hardware
In the iPhone Ultra project, Apple plans to give up some classic features in order to optimize the foldable structure of the device.
Leaked information indicates that the device may lack features such as Face ID, a special telephoto camera lens, MagSafe support and a physical SIM card slot. This raises questions about how the technology giant will shape the user experience while focusing on the new form factor.
The high thermal performance offered by iPhone Ultra will be the most valuable technical advantage of the device within its compact structure.
Differences Stand Out in Screen Technology
iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max users will benefit from 10-bit M16 panels that offer higher efficiency and contain blue phosphorescent material.
On the other hand, the iPhone Ultra’s use of the M14 panel shows that Apple is following a different segmentation strategy in its foldable device. Standard iPhone 18 models are expected to be released with M14 or M12+ screens adapted from past technologies.
Production Process Continues as Planned
Reports from Weibo state that the mass production process is on track despite the SMT difficulties experienced during the PCB (printed circuit board) assembly of the device.
While preparations are continuing for the launch in September, it is estimated that the device will come in two different color options: white and dark blue.
It remains a matter of curiosity how this new form factor will affect Apple’s position in the portable device market.
The Apple event, which will take place in September 2026, will represent the beginning of a new era in the foldable phone world.
