As the new iPhone models were launched in the Turkish market, a detailed analysis shared by tax expert Ozan Bingöl revealed the heavy tax burden on the devices. The tax rates on the iPhone Duo model, introduced last night and attracting attention with its starting price of 230 thousand TL, and the iPhone 18 Pro with 138 thousand TL, proved that more than half of the price paid by consumers consists of legal deductions transferred to the state. This high pricing policy has once again brought to the forefront the direct impact of items such as
Special Consumption Tax (SCT),
Value Added Tax (VAT), TRT banderol and Ministry of Culture share applied in the Turkish smartphone market on the end-user cost. The total tax amount for the iPhone Duo model was calculated as 117,040 TL.
The Tax Amount Paid for the iPhone Duo Exceeds Half
The new iPhone Duo model, launched with a price tag of 230,000 TL, reveals a striking picture when tax items are separated. The device’s bare, tax-free entry price is 112,960 TL. A 1% Ministry of Culture fee of 1,129 TL and a 12% TRT banderol fee of 13,690 TL are added to this amount.
Furthermore, when 50% Special Consumption Tax (SCT) and 20% Value Added Tax (VAT) are added, the total tax burden on the device rises to 117,040 TL. This shows that almost one out of every two TL paid by the user returns as tax.
Tax Rates Examined for iPhone 18 Pro Model
The iPhone 18 Pro, offered as a more accessible option with a starting price of 138,000 TL, faces a similar tax structure. The device, with a tax-free price of 67,775 TL, includes a 678 TL Ministry of Culture fee and an 8,213 TL TRT (Turkish Radio and Television Corporation) license fee.
With 50% Special Consumption Tax (SCT) and 20% Value Added Tax (VAT) calculations, a total tax price of 70,224 TL is obtained.
These data clearly show the decisive power of the taxation system in Turkey on the final price of smartphones, which are called luxury segment devices.
High Prices in the Market Make Consumers Think
These starting prices, which are quite high for technology enthusiasts, stem not only from exchange rate fluctuations but also from the tax legislation in the country. The fact that the prices of especially high-end devices exceed the 200,000 TL mark is considered an indicator of how much the cost of accessing technology has increased.
Experts continue to closely monitor how these price levels will affect sales figures and consumer preferences in the coming months.
