Under-Screen Face ID Technology
Apple engineers are following a rather complex technical system to narrow the Dynamic Island area in the iPhone 18 Pro series. The company has moved the infrared camera, which powers the Face ID system, to the left side by placing it under the screen panel.
This placement change visibly reduces the area covered by the black area at the top of the screen. A special and unusual pixel arrangement used above the infrared camera forms the basis of this design.
The pixel structure in question allows infrared light to pass through the panel, ensuring the face scanning process works seamlessly. This allows the hardware to perform its function without compromising functionality, even when hidden beneath the screen.
Since light transmittance is limited in traditional screen panels, this type of integration requires a very intensive process. With this technology, Apple makes it possible for the sensors to receive the light they need while maintaining the image quality of the screen.
New Dynamic Island Capabilities
The reduction in the Dynamic Island area also opens up some new possibilities on the software side. Thanks to this advanced infrastructure offered by the new phones, the interface can now display three different active live processes simultaneously.
This area, which was limited in previous models, improves the multitasking experience for users thanks to the new hardware layout. It is now possible to monitor three different processes running in the background at a glance.
This feature makes it easier to keep track of constantly updated information, especially timers, sports scores, or navigation. Users can monitor important notifications via Dynamic Island without switching between apps.
