Apple TV is breaking new ground in sports broadcasting by broadcasting the first professional MLS match, shot entirely on iPhone 17 Pro, on May 23.
Apple is preparing to broadcast a special Major League Soccer (MLS) match that will take place on Saturday, May 23, entirely using the iPhone 17 Pro. This broadcast marks a milestone as it marks the first time an entire professional sports match has been recorded on an iPhone and presented to viewers.
The clash between LA Galaxy and Houston Dynamo FC will take place at Dignity Health Sports Park in California. The match will be broadcast live on Apple TV on the final weekend of the MLS regular period ahead of FIFA World Cup 2026.
A new era in sports broadcasting with iPhone 17 Pro
Throughout the match, iPhone 17 Pro will record all details, from on-field warm-ups to player introductions and behind-the-goal angles. The compact structure of the device allows viewers to be presented with unusual new perspectives thanks to the cameras placed at different points of the stadium.
Apple first tried iPhone technology in a “Friday Night Baseball” game in September 2025. The iPhone used in this match between the Boston Red Sox and Detroit Tigers was later included in the permanent collection of the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum.

The three 48MP Fusion cameras in the iPhone 17 Pro combine the shooting capacity of eight lenses in a compact body. In this weekend’s broadcast, professional display features such as Apple Log 2 will be actively used.
Always improving in publishing technologies
Apple decided to expand iPhone usage following positive feedback on “Friday Night Baseball” broadcasts. This technology, which was also used in the 2025 MLS Cup, was integrated into the production process of both baseball and football broadcasts throughout the 2026 period.

The LA Galaxy and Houston Dynamo FC match, which will take place on Saturday, is the first fully professional sports event to be shot on iPhone. Viewers will be able to follow this special broadcast on Apple TV on May 23 at 19:30 PT.
Apple TV subscribers can watch all MLS matches with detailed analysis and exclusive content in more than 100 countries and regions.
