Intel Processor Prices to Increase Again in October

Intel Processor Prices to Increase Again in October

Intel, Market, Price, Business, Company

Intel is preparing to add another price adjustment to its ongoing price changes throughout the year. It is reported that the Intel processor price increase planned for October will raise CPU costs by 10 percent. This move follows price updates implemented by the company in the first quarter and July. There is no official statement yet on whether this increase will cover desktop processors or portable platforms.

New Profitability-Focused Pricing Policy

It is stated that Intel’s main motivation for this price change is to increase its gross profit margin rather than expanding its market share. Despite the company’s prediction that global PC shipments will decline from 260 million to 250 million units by 2027, it is shaping its strategy accordingly.

Intel calculates that if it can reach the 200 million unit level again in CPU shipments, it can increase its market share to 78 percent. To achieve this goal, the company is considering the option of completely phasing out its product line consisting only of E-Core cores.

This strategic change is thought to create a gap in the industrial PC and IoT chip markets. It seems likely that Competitors such as Qualcomm and MediaTek will gain more share in these markets.

The company’s market share goals are directly linked to the downward trend in global PC shipments. Intel is focusing on optimizing its product line to maintain its profitability in these challenging market conditions.

Workforce Restructuring Process

The company plans to significantly reduce its workforce of 75,000 people, in addition to its pricing policies. Sources indicate that the workforce could be reduced by 5 to 10 percent.

Intel had already implemented a similar workforce reduction in its Data Center and AI cluster last July. It is noteworthy that the company continued to hire new employees despite these layoffs.

Expectations of a contraction in the global PC market are accelerating Intel’s pursuit of operational efficiency. To maintain profitability, the company aims to make fundamental changes to both its product range and organizational structure.

Increased competition, particularly in the IoT and industrial sectors, necessitates Intel adopting a more flexible structure to maintain its market dominance. The company is working to reduce costs while simultaneously retaining skilled workers in critical areas.

It remains to be seen how Intel’s strategy will be received in the technology world in the coming period. What do you think about Intel’s price increasing and downsizing decisions?
