Intel Core Ultra 9 4950K Begins a New Naming Era

Intel’s Core Ultra 9 4950K model, prepared for its new generation desktop processor family Nova Lake-S, has surfaced for the first time in the technology world. A leak shared by LC Tech Leaks reveals that Intel will be adopting a four-digit naming strategy for its upcoming Nova Lake-S series.

This new processor, expected to be compatible with the Z990 motherboard platform, stands out with its performance results surpassing current generation processors, despite being an early engineering sample (ES). Scheduled for release in 2027, this series aims to strengthen Intel’s competitive position in the desktop processor market.

Four-Digit Naming Strategy Determined

The three-digit naming conventions used in the current Arrow Lake-S series, such as the Core Ultra 9 285K, have become insufficient for Intel’s expanding product range. Intel has decided to switch to a four-digit system under the “Core Ultra Series 4” umbrella because the Nova Lake-S family will include many more variations and different performance segments.

This change is thought to make it easier for consumers to distinguish between processor generations and performance tiers.

Intel plans to completely change the performance stability in the desktop processor market with the Nova Lake-S series.

Performance Tests Reach Record Levels

Leaked CPU-Z benchmark scores show that the Core Ultra 9 4950K model achieves results close to 1000 points in single-core performance and close to 20,000 points in multi-core performance.

These values ​​are considerably higher than the scores offered by the Core Ultra 9 285K and Ryzen 9 9950X3D, which are currently the most powerful processors on the market. However, it should not be overlooked that these results relate to an early engineering sample and may differ in final products.

Competition Heats Up in 2027

Intel’s Nova Lake-S breakthrough coincides with the expected release of AMD’s Zen 6 architecture processors in 2027. Both giant companies are preparing to push the limits of performance by utilizing TSMC N2P manufacturing technology.

Intel’s massive architecture, capable of up to 52 cores, and its advanced bLLC cache technology, raise questions about how it will compete with AMD’s Zen 6 architecture.
