Group Chats in Google Messages are Being Updated

Google Messages has started testing its new feature in beta, which allows participation in group chats via contact and QR code.

Google is preparing to roll out the long-awaited group chat invitation contact feature for its popular messaging app, Google Messages. First mentioned last year, this feature has been made functional in the latest beta versions of the app.

This new system, not yet publicly available, aims to make it easier for users to join group chats. The current status of the feature suggests that Google may make an official announcement soon.

Joining Group Chats is Getting Easier

Thanks to the new feature, users will be able to create custom text links or QR codes for the group chats they create. The Invite via link option, which will be located within Google Messages settings, will allow group administrators to enable or disable contact sharing.

Users can copy these created contacts to the clipboard, share them with others within the application, or share them on different platforms. Additionally, the QR code generation option offers a practical alternative for those who want to quickly participate in a physical environment.

On the security side, Google has established rules for managing contacts. Invitation contacts and QR codes are designed to automatically reset every 30 days. In addition, group members can manually renew contacts at any time.

User experience and accessibility

When invitation contacts are enabled in group chats, a notification will appear on the chat screen indicating this. Through this notification, users can quickly access the invitation contact settings directly.

This feature, first hinted at in May of last year, was in an incomplete state at that time. However, tests in the current beta version reveal that the system is now fully functional and users can create invitation contacts without any problems.

Google has not yet officially announced when this feature will be released to all users. However, the current stability of the system strengthens the expectation that the feature could be made available to the general public at any moment.
