Google Introduced Googlebook, the Successor of Chromebook

Google announced Googlebook, a new laptop series based on Android and ChromeOS. Here are the features of the new devices and curious details.

Google introduced its new laptop series, Googlebook, which it plans to launch this fall. The company is taking an important step in the laptop market with the announcement it made within the scope of the Android Show event.

The new devices will run on a new operating system that is a combination of Android and ChromeOS. While Google has not yet announced the name of this operating system, it states that the name Aluminum, previously mentioned in leaks, is just a code name.

Googlebook and New Operating System Features

Googlebook devices are built on the Android technology stack and support both the Chrome browser and Android apps. Users can directly access files on their Android phones and run applications from the computer.

Gemini Intelligence technology is deeply integrated in all devices. The Magic Pointer feature offers contextual suggestions based on the content on the screen by waving the cursor and speeds up users’ workflows.

In addition, special artificial intelligence-based tools developed for Android phones and Wear OS watches are also included in Googlebook models. These tools allow for personalized edits, such as flight information or event countdowns.

Hardware Details and Future Plans

Google has not yet shared detailed information about the design, specifications or pricing of the new laptops. The common design signature of the devices developed in cooperation with Acer, Asus, Dell, HP and Lenovo will be the colored light bar on the body.

The company confirmed that the production of Chromebook models will continue after the launch of the Googlebook series. Existing Chromebook devices will continue to receive the 10-year automatic security update support for 2021 and later models.

It remains unclear how the Googlebook series will affect the Chromebook market or what surprises it will offer on the hardware side.

Do you think Google’s new laptop initiative can convince existing Chromebook users to switch to the new platform?
