Google has released a new update to its Gemini for Home assistant that brings camera-based automations and performance improvements.
Google has released a comprehensive update on Gemini for Home, its assistant developed for smart home systems. With this new release, users can create automatic routines based on events that come into view of cameras in their home.
Gemini for Home, which became available in early access in October 2025 and replaced Google Assistant, now combines visual information with smart housing scenarios. Thanks to this feature, situations such as package delivery or glass breakage detected by the cameras enable the system to operate automatically.
Camera-based smart home automations
Using natural language commands, users can easily determine which camera should follow which event. Google states that this system combines visual intelligence and the smart home ecosystem, allowing all devices in the house to work in coordination. Gemini for Home, is now capable of processing multiple requests into sentences with more appropriate meaning and more natural language.
With the update, the performance and reliability levels of the assistant have also been increased. Gemini makes fewer mistakes of not being able to complete missions, which were common in the past, and follows established alarms or timers more accurately. In addition, Apple Music subscribers can now access the music service again via Google Home devices.
Additional features that improve user experience
Changes made to the Google Home app make adding the Familiar Faces feature and sending feedback more practical. These innovations are available to all existing users in 19 Gemini for Home-enabled countries and supported languages.
However, corporate accounts or Family Link child accounts are excluded from these features.
The new Google Home Speaker, a valuable module in Google’s smart housing vision, has not yet been released. There is currently no order option for the device, which was announced in October 2025 and planned to ship in spring 2026.
