The company stated that some of the generated images violated existing policies and announced that it would be working on more comprehensive security measures.

On July 30, Google included Nano Banana 2 technology in the Google Earth system, allowing users to create creative images of real-world locations. This new feature is expected to be particularly useful for professionals working with geographic data, quickly faced unexpected problems.

Fake and Deceptive Images Can Be Generated

Researchers revealed that the AI ​​tool integrated into the Google Earth platform could create scenes that looked realistic but were completely invalid. Tests revealed that a giant statue of Donald Trump was placed in front of the White House, a fictional refugee camp was created near the Mexican border, and a non-existent nuclear facility in Iran was displayed.

Examples also included the generation of fake images showing a traffic accident in Amsterdam that never happened. The ability to create such content raised significant questions about the platform’s reliability.

Stronger security measures will be implemented

Google, in a statement on its official news account regarding the X platform, emphasized that users accept Google Earth as a reliable view of the world. The fact that some users began sharing screenshots of these AI-generated fake landscapes was considered a violation of the company’s policies.

Therefore, Google decided to temporarily remove this feature from the Google Earth platform. The company stated that it will consider offering this feature again after developing stronger security measures.

There is no clear information yet on which types of images the new security measures will block. Google stated that AI-generated images do not appear to other users in the main experience and carry a watermark indicating that this content is AI-generated.
