Gamers Abandon Windows 11: SteamOS Gets Stronger

Valve is developing SteamOS for desktop computers. Is there an alternative to Windows 11 with Nvidia support and new updates?

Valve is working on valuable improvements to make the SteamOS operating system compatible with a wider range of hardware. The company aims to provide a better experience, especially for desktop computer users.

Pierre-Loup Griffais, one of Valve engineers, stated that they are working intensively to increase the compatibility of the system with desktop hardware. In this process, it is aimed to improve the graphics processor support by working closely with Nvidia.

What’s New in SteamOS 3.8

The newly released SteamOS 3.8 version brings with it infrastructure changes that allow users to create their own Steam Machine devices. This update provides more stable performance for Intel processors and Nvidia graphics cards, while also providing significant improvements in display memory management.

KDE Plasma 6.4.3 version and Wayland support added to the system take the desktop experience to the next level. These improvements offer a smoother usage experience on issues such as external displays and variable refresh rate (VRR).

Griffais states that Nvidia support will not come immediately this year, but they continue to work on this issue in the background. Nevertheless, these developments are already creating great excitement among gamers who are not happy with Windows 11 and are looking for an alternative.

Gamers Are Preparing to Give Up on Windows 11

Many users state that there may be a major transition from the Windows platform with SteamOS getting Nvidia support. On platforms such as Reddit, gamers who complain about Windows 11’s gaming performance share that they have started to switch to Linux-based systems.

These steps by Valve aim to make SteamOS a desktop alternative suitable for general use, rather than just a game console operating system. Users plan to get rid of Windows addiction by using SteamOS on the computers they build themselves.

Although Windows 11 still maintains its dominant position in the gaming world, these strategic attacks by Valve may create a long-term competition for Microsoft. The development of SteamOS may significantly change operating system preferences in the gaming world in the future.
