Tesla announced that it is recalling 173 Cybertruck RWD models due to the risk of wheels coming off. Here are the details.
Tesla decided to recall all vehicles due to a manufacturing defect detected in the Cybertruck RWD model, which it launched as a more affordable option. According to the details shared by the US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the holes in the brake discs of vehicles are prone to cracking due to road conditions.
These cracks pose a serious safety risk that can cause 18-inch steel rims to completely separate from the brake disc. In order to fix this problem, the company invites a total of 173 Cybertruck RWD models worldwide to service.
Recall process and technical details
Tesla has prepared a comprehensive repair plan to solve the safety issue in question. According to the statement, the repair process includes installing new hubs, using redesigned brake discs and strengthening the wheel nuts with a high-friction coating.
These technical improvements aim to increase torque consistency under heavy loads. Tesla states that it will carry out all necessary part replacements and updates free of charge for vehicle owners, and relevant users are informed about the process.
The Cybertruck RWD model was introduced about a year ago as a more accessible version of the series. However, the vehicle did not receive the expected attention due to the limited features it was offered and was removed from sale in a short time.

The company generally avoids disclosing sales figures on the basis of specific models and reports this data in the same category as other models. However, this recall process clearly reveals why the Cybertruck RWD model, which sold only 173 units in total, was withdrawn from the market so quickly.
