Apple is reportedly working on a second-generation iPhone Air model, and the device is expected to be released in the first quarter of 2027. According to information shared by investment analyst Jeff Pu, the new model will come with significant hardware updates compared to its predecessor.
A research note prepared by GF Securities states that the device will come with five key innovations. These improvements range from the camera system to the processor architecture.
Innovations Coming with iPhone Air 2
In addition to the existing Fusion lens, the new model will feature a second Ultra Wide rear camera with a resolution of 48 megapixels. Furthermore, the Dynamic Island area on the screen is expected to be slightly smaller than the current model.
On the performance side, the TSMC A20 Pro chip developed with a 2nm manufacturing process will be used. This new processor will offer higher speed and power efficiency compared to the 3nm A19 Pro chip found in current iPhone Air models.
Wireless connectivity technologies will also be updated, and the second-generation N2 chip will be included in the device. This chip will improve the performance of features such as Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6, and Thread support, as well as AirDrop and Personal Hotspot.
For 5G connectivity, the second-generation C2 chip will be used. It is assumed that the device will retain its 6.5-inch screen size, have 12GB of RAM, and come with an 18-megapixel Center Stage front camera.
Release Strategy
Apple plans to announce the iPhone Air 2 model, along with the standard iPhone 18 and the entry-level iPhone 18e, around March 2027. As part of the company’s new strategy, high-end devices such as the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max are expected to be introduced in September of this year.
