Change in Huawei Mate 90 Series: Fingerprint is Moved Under the Screen

Change in Huawei Mate 90 Series: Fingerprint is Moved Under the Screen

Huawei Mate 90 series ushers in a new era in design and biometric security by switching to an under-screen fingerprint sensor on all models.

According to the latest information, the highly anticipated Huawei Mate 90 series comes with an important hardware update regarding biometric security. Physical fingerprint readers, which were usually positioned on the side in previous models, are replaced by under-screen fingerprint sensors, which are expected to become standard across the entire series this time. This move aims to take the user experience to a more modern level while preserving the aesthetic integrity of the device.

  • All models of the Huawei Mate 90 series will use under-screen fingerprint technology instead of physical sensors.

  • The biometric security difference between Standard and Pro models is minimized with new technology.

  • Thanks to this change, a smoother and symmetrical design language will be adopted on the display panel of the devices.

Under-Screen Sensor Technology Becomes Standard

This move by Huawei in the Mate 90 series marks not only a hardware change but also a transformation in design philosophy.

In the Mate 70 series and some previous models, users often encountered capacitive fingerprint sensors integrated into the power key. However, with the Mate 90 series, Huawei spreads the premium feeling to the entire series by switching to optical or ultrasonic under-screen sensors in both standard and upper segment models.

Under-screen fingerprint readers do not occupy any physical space on the front of the device, especially when combined with the advantages offered by OLED panel technology.

This allows Huawei to further increase the screen-to-body ratio and offer users a larger viewing area.

New Standards in Safety and Speed

With the development of biometric technologies, the response times of under-screen sensors have become competitive with physical sensors. The sensors that Huawei will use in the Mate 90 series are expected to work with high accuracy even in low light conditions or when the finger is wet.

In addition, the company is expected to support these sensors with its own special software optimizations, reducing the unlocking speed to milliseconds.

Especially in the Pro and Pro+ models, it is estimated that Huawei’s advanced 3D facial recognition system will be preserved as well as the under-screen fingerprint sensor. This double-layer security structure ensures the highest level of protection of users with both face and fingerprint.

When Is Mate 90 Series Coming?

Huawei Mate 90 series is expected to be introduced in the last quarter of the year with the company’s new generation Kirin processors. In addition to under-screen fingerprint sensors, XMAGE improvements on the camera side and updates in satellite communication technology seem likely to make the Mate 90 one of the most remarkable phones of the year.

On the software side, it is planned to offer the completely independent HarmonyOS NEXT operating system, fully compatible and optimized with these devices.

It is stated that as Huawei increases the rate of domestic production in its supply chain, these new display technologies are developed in a more integrated manner with panel manufacturers. This can positively affect both the cost and performance balance of the device.
