Mozilla is testing a built-in ad blocking feature for the Firefox iOS app. Here are the details and working principle of the new feature.
Mozilla is working on a new feature for the iOS version of its popular browser, Firefox. The company has started testing a built-in system that can block ads and trackers without the need for third-party add-ons.
This new development aims to make the internet experience cleaner. Users will now be able to manage pop-ups and various overlays more easily through the browser.
It will block most ads
This new ad blocker added to the Firefox iOS app works at the network level. The feature uses an EasyList-based filter list to detect ads before they load.
This system can filter content from third-party advertising networks and ad-related trackers. Additionally, annoying pop-ups and overlays encountered while browsing the internet are also included in this blocking.
Mozilla reminds users that websites use a wide variety of technologies to serve ads. Therefore, some ads that fall outside the current filter list cannot be blocked.
For example, ads on search engine results pages will continue to be displayed. The same applies to sponsored content appearing on the Firefox homepage or new tab page.
It will be disabled by default.
The new ad blocker is offered to users in a disabled form by default. Those who want to use the feature need to manually activate it by going to Firefox’s main settings menu.
Users can check whether the ad blocking feature is working on the websites they visit via the site menu. Mozilla plans to gradually roll out this new built-in feature to all users.
