Big Rival to DJI: Vivo Pocket is Coming

Big Rival to DJI: Vivo Pocket is Coming

Vivo Pocket competes with DJI with its 200 MP camera and professional gimbal features. Details of the device that will arrive at the end of 2026 are in our news.

Vivo, which has made a name for itself in the smartphone market with its camera capabilities, is now setting its sights on the world of professional content producers and vloggers. The company’s new handheld gimbal device, which is expected to be called “Vivo Pocket”, is preparing to become a direct competitor to the industry leader DJI with its leaked technical specifications.

This device, which is stated to be equipped with a huge 200 megapixel sensor, combines the image quality of flagship phones with professional stabilization despite its compact structure. Vivo Pocket, which is expected to be released in the last quarter of 2026, begins a new era in content production.

Resolution Revolution in the Gimbal World with 200 Megapixels

The most striking feature of Vivo Pocket is undoubtedly the Sony LYT-901 sensor it carries at its heart. This 1/1.1 inch sensor has a physical size almost close to 1 inch professional camera sensors. Offering a resolution of 200 megapixels, this hardware provides users not only with high-detail photos but also incredible crop flexibility in video shooting. In this way, the device manages to maintain image quality even when digital zooming.

In this new device, Vivo prefers a hardware architecture similar to the imaging systems it uses in its flagship smartphones. Sony’s Lytia series sensors are known for their light gathering capacity and high dynamic range.

Equipping Vivo Pocket with this sensor shows that it will be the biggest helper of vloggers, especially in low-light environments. The device is expected to be supported not only by hardware but also by software image processing algorithms coming from Vivo’s collaboration with Zeiss.

Mass Production Begins in October: Market Release Date Becomes Clear

Latest reports from the industry indicate that Vivo initially planned to introduce this device along with the X500 series in September, but moved the schedule a little further due to competitive conditions. According to current planning, mass production of Vivo Pocket will start in October. The commercial launch takes place in late November or early December. It is stated that Vivo has initially prepared a stock of one million units for this product category. This figure is considered as proof of how confident the company is in this category it has just entered.

Although the processor that will be inside the device is not yet clear, it is estimated that a chipset powerful enough to process 4K 120 FPS or 8K video will be used. Vivo positions this device not just as an accessory, but as a standalone and powerful solution for content creators. User experience tests launched in Shenzhen confirm that the device’s stabilization and focusing capabilities in real-world use are in the final stages.

New Battlefield of Smartphone Giants: Compact Cameras

The narrowing of profit margins in the smartphone market is directing technology giants to new hardware categories. Vivo Pocket’s leaked information represents just the beginning. It is stated that Oppo is working on a similar handheld gimbal codenamed “Fuyao” and that this device will arrive at the end of 2026. Competition does not end there; It is said that Huawei and Honor are preparing their own compact camera projects for 2027.

This shows that the compact gimbal camera market, which has been dominated by the DJI Osmo Pocket series for years, will host great competition. Smartphone manufacturers are taking on DJI by transferring their advanced sensor technologies and artificial intelligence-supported image processing capabilities to these new devices.

Vivo Pocket looks one step ahead of its competitors on paper with its 200 MP sensor. This new generation of hardware, which allows users to produce cinematic content without carrying a professional camera, seems to be at the top of the technology agenda by the end of 2026.
