ASELSAN ROADGUARD on the Streets of Ankara: It Even Recognizes the Driver Inside the Vehicle

ASELSAN ROADGUARD on the Streets of Ankara: It Even Recognizes the Driver Inside the Vehicle

The artificial intelligence-based ROADGUARD system, launched by ASELSAN in Ankara, draws attention with its face recognition feature as well as license plate reading in moving vehicles.

ROADGUARD signed by ASELSAN, which has been implemented in the central points of Ankara with heavy traffic, starts a new era in traffic safety and public order controls. Equipped with advanced sensor technologies based on artificial intelligence, the system can not only read license plates but also detect individuals in moving vehicles with high precision. This platform, which is directly integrated with the General Directorate of Security (EGM) systems, makes it possible to track suspicious vehicles and people with instant information analysis.

Highlights:

  • Artificial Intelligence Supported Facial Recognition:It detects drivers and passengers in moving vehicles, even under the most severe traffic conditions.

  • License Plate and Person Integration:It performs a comprehensive query on a single platform by matching the vehicle license plate and driver information.

  • Instant Inquiry with EGM Database:It compares the obtained information with the General Directorate of Security database within seconds and turns it into meaningful security data.

New Generation Technology in Traffic Safety

Developed by ASELSAN, ROADGUARD comes with a technology that goes beyond classical mobile systems. While classical license plate systems recognition (PTS) only identify the vehicle, ROADGUARD focuses on the people inside the vehicle using artificial intelligence algorithms. This system, which has been put into operation in central locations of Ankara, provides a significant time advantage to the security forces in the fight against crimes and criminals.

The greatest power of the system comes from its capacity to instantly process the optical data it obtains. ROADGUARD analyzes the high-resolution images it receives from the camera, thanks to deep learning models, and matches the facial contours of the individuals in the vehicle as a digital trace.

Digital Eye of Security: How Does ROADGUARD Work?

Although ROADGUARD’s operating principle is based on a rather complex process, it exhibits an extremely fast operational flow. Sensors capture a clear view regardless of the vehicle’s face. Subsequently, the facial data of the person in the vehicle and the vehicle license plate are instantly combined by the system.

The documents resulting from this combination process are transmitted to the central database of the General Directorate of Security. The EGM system checks within seconds whether there is a random search warrant, violation record or criminal element about the person or vehicle. If a match is detected, the system automatically sends an alert to the relevant units. In this way, police teams have detailed information about the person inside the vehicle before physically stopping the suspect vehicle.

City Security and Future Vision

This technology of ASELSAN is not only a security tool, but also becomes an important part of smart city applications. ROADGUARD minimizes human error in traffic controls, especially in metropolitan cities. The system, which prevents problems such as incorrect license plate reading or faulty vehicle matching, allows checks to be carried out more fairly and efficiently.

This practice, which started in Ankara, is becoming one of the greatest aids of the security forces, especially in the fight against terrorism and the capture of wanted persons. This artificial intelligence-based solution, developed with local and national resources, proves how successfully Turkey’s power in the defense industry is reflected in civil security technologies.
