It is stated that Apple has made significant changes to its future product lineup. The decision to cancel the Apple foldable MacBook, eagerly awaited in the technology world, has come to the fore with new reports shared by industry analysts.

According to Omdia’s research, the company has stopped the development process of a large-screen foldable device planned to be between 16.1 and 18 inches. It was previously known that this device had deviated from the 2026 production schedule and was mostly considered as a large-screen iPad.

New MacBook Strategy and Changing Plans

In addition to the foldable model, Apple has also shelved its plans for an OLED-screened MacBook Pro expected to be between 14.4 and 16.1 inches. This product was intended to be positioned between the standard MacBook Pro dimensions and the foldable device.

With the cancellation of these two product lines, the screen size range between 14.3 and 16.3 inches will remain exclusive to the MacBook Pro series. The company’s overall OLED display strategy remains unchanged; only the products that will use this technology and the types of OLED preferred have been reorganized.

This strategic change alignments with updates to Apple’s product roadmap for 2026 and 2027. Under the redesigned plans, a new 13.8-inch MacBook model is reportedly being developed.

This new device will be positioned between the LCD-screened MacBook Air and the OLED-screened MacBook Pro. The model is expected to feature next-generation OLED capabilities such as an LTPO+ rear panel, an under-display camera, and color filter encapsulation technology.

MacBook Ultra and Future Expectations

The new 13.8-inch model is intended to fill the void left by the canceled 14.4 and 16.1-inch OLED MacBook Pros. This device will be positioned below, not above, the Pro series.

The 14.3 and 16.3-inch OLED MacBook Pro models, also called MacBook Ultra, are expected to be announced in the second half of 2026 or the beginning of 2027. Omdia emphasized that the existing mini-LED MacBook Pro models will not be discontinued when the high-performance OLED versions are released.

It is predicted that the two different display technologies will be sold in parallel for several years. It seems likely that the mini-LED versions will remain in the product range until at least 2028.

How do you evaluate these developments in the technology world and Apple’s changing product strategy?
