Apple aims to increase transparency by labeling AI-generated content on its Apple Music platform with the “Made With AI” label.
Apple has announced in an official notification to its music industry partners that it will be switching to a new tagging system for AI-generated content on its Apple Music platform. According to information obtained by Hollywood Reporter, the company will add the phrase “Made With AI” to content later this year, visible to all users on the platform.
While aiming to identify and increase transparency regarding music created using artificial intelligence technology, this step seems poised to become a new standard in the music world.
AI Labels Aim to Offer Transparency
Apple announced the “Transparency Labels” system last March, which allows content creators to declare their use of artificial intelligence. Initially optional, this practice is becoming mandatory with the new decision. The company mandates that this labeling be applied whenever a significant portion of the content is generated by artificial intelligence.
Specifically, segments derived directly from an AI platform and whose main features are automatically generated will be subject to price hikes.
Uncertainties regarding the use of AI in the music world are being eliminated with new regulations.
Industry Data Shows the Impact of AI
Apple Music Vice President Oliver Schusser shared different statistics in a statement he made last April. According to Schusser, more than one-third of the content uploaded to the platform monthly is entirely generated by AI.
However, despite this high upload rate, the listening rates of these modules remain below 0.5% of the total traffic.
This situation proves that although the quantity of AI-generated content is high, it has not yet become mainstream in listener preferences.
Auditing Processes Are Carried Out With Sensitivity
The company states that it has a special internal system that can detect AI-generated content. However, Apple emphasizes that the responsibility largely lies with the content providers.
Artists and record labels are expected to honestly declare whether AI technology was used in the produced work. These new labels are planned to be made available to all users later in the year.
Apple’s move makes the line between human labor and AI production in the music industry more distinct.
