SanDisk introduced the 8 TB capacity Optimus GX PRO 850P SSD series, which it developed for PlayStation 5 and whose price increases the price of the console by 5 times.
Storage solutions giant SanDisk announced the new Optimus GX PRO 850P SSD series, which created a great impact in the gaming world. These new generation storage units, designed especially for PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 5 Pro consoles, appeal to players who want to expand the internal space of the console.
The device is equipped with a customized cooling system that is fully compatible with the PS5’s case structure. However, more than the technical features of the product, especially the price tag of the 8 TB capacity model, hit the technology agenda like a bombshell, as the console quadrupled or even quintupled its own sales price.
Optimus GX PRO 850P Series Offers High Speed
The new series offers a wide range of capacities such as 1 TB, 2 TB, 4 TB and 8 TB according to the needs of the users. In terms of technical performance, 2 TB and 4 TB capacity models can reach 7300 MB reading and 6600 MB writing speeds per second.
The 8 TB model, which is in the top segment of the series, offers 7200 MB/s reading speed, while maintaining 6600 MB/s on the writing side. In addition, this huge storage unit aims to minimize game loading times with a processing capacity of up to 1.2 million IOPS.
The $3000 price of the 8 TB capacity model is unattainable for many players in the market.
Durability Increases with Storage Capacity
SanDisk is gradually increasing the data lifetime (TBW) prices offered in its new SSD series according to the capacity. While the 1 TB model offers a lifespan of 600 TBW, this value goes up to 4800 TBW in the 8 TB capacity model. The company also provides a five-year limited warranty to show that it stands behind these high-performance products. This creates a long-term investment advantage for professional content creators and users who download a lot of games.
Price Politics Causes Controversies
The pricing of the products is quite ambitious. While the 1 TB version is offered for sale at $ 380, you have to pay $ 760 for 2 TB and $ 1500 for 4 TB. Considering that the PlayStation 5 model is approximately $650 in the US market, it becomes clear that the price of the 8 TB SSD, which is the top model, is 4-5 times more valuable than the console itself. This clearly shows that storage solutions in the hardware world now exceed even the costs of game consoles.
Do you think it makes sense to pay such a high price for an 8 TB capacity SSD for a game console, or should more affordable external solutions be preferred? Share your opinions with us in the comments.
