Nintendo announced that its popular game Mario Kart Tour will be closed in 2026. All the details about the game, which will not be an offline version, are in our news.
Nintendo has officially announced that the end of the road has come for the well-known portable racing game Mario Kart Tour. According to the statement made by the company, the servers of the game will be completely shut down on September 29, 2026, at 23:00 Pacific Time, and the game will become unplayable as of this date.
Mario Kart Tour, which has been in service for about seven years and has reached a wide player base, is being phased out with the discontinuation of in-game purchases. While Nintendo thanked its fans who have supported the game for many years, it made a decision about the future of the game that will disappoint the players.
An Offline Version Will Not Be Developed for Mario Kart Tour
The development that upset Mario Kart Tour fans the most was Nintendo’s confirmation that it would not offer an offline mode for the game.
When it was previously announced that the Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp game would be closed, the company prepared an offline version called “Pocket Camp Complete”, which works with a one-time purchase, allowing fans to preserve their data. However, there is no such road map for Mario Kart Tour.
When Mario Kart Tour’s servers go down, players’ progress and content will become permanently inaccessible.
Purchases and Subscriptions Paused
With the decision to terminate the service, Nintendo also made radical changes to the in-game economy. While ruby sales have been stopped completely, new purchases and automatic renewals of Gold Pass subscriptions have also been cancelled.
Users with existing subscriptions will be able to continue to benefit from Gold Pass benefits free of charge until the game is closed. Players who do not have a subscription will be able to access these advantages without paying additional prices as of August 4.
The Future of Content Remains Uncertain
Some of the tracks in Mario Kart Tour have already been integrated into console games such as Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and Mario Kart World. Famous routes such as Tokyo Blur, Paris Promenade and Sky-High Sundae remain accessible for console players.
It is a matter of curiosity whether Nintendo will continue to preserve these tracks on other platforms with future updates.
Mario Kart World, developed for the Switch 2 platform, attracted attention with the new Knockout Tour updates it received last week.
However, these updates focus on different experiences of existing routes rather than adding new tracks. Fans hope the classic Tour tracks will be preserved through new DLC packs in the future.
