📜 History

Roman Period: The territory of present-day Austria was a significant part of the Roman Empire.

Middle Ages: The Habsburg Dynasty (from the 13th century) became one of the most powerful dynasties in Europe.

1867–1918: It was the center of the Austro-Hungarian Empire. This empire dissolved after World War I.

1918: Republic declared.

1938–1945: Joined Nazi Germany (Anschluss). Regained independence after World War II.

1955: Accepted the principle of full independence and neutrality. Did not join NATO or the Warsaw Pact.

Located in Central Europe.

Neighbors: Germany, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary, Slovenia, Italy, Switzerland, Liechtenstein.

Alps: Approximately 60% of the country is mountainous (especially covered by the Alps).

Climate: Continental and Alpine climate prevails. Winters are cold and snowy, and summers are cool/late mild.

Major Rivers: Danube (Donau), Inn, Mur.

Austria is one of the centers of classical music. Composers such as Mozart, Beethoven, Haydn, Schubert, and Strauss lived here.

Vienna has long been the art and culture capital of Europe.

Its opera and classical music concerts are world-renowned.

Cuisine: Dishes such as Schnitzel (Wiener Schnitzel), Apfelstrudel (apple dessert), and Sachertorte (chocolate cake) are famous.

It is a developed economy with a high standard of living.

It is not a member of NATO; it maintains a policy of neutrality.

It is active in the United Nations and many international organizations.

Sigmund Freud, the founder of psychoanalysis, was born in Austria.

It is very strong in winter sports (especially skiing) due to its Alpine surroundings.

The world-famous Lipizzaner horses are bred at the Spanish Riding School in Vienna.
