Cheap Memory Became a Lie

Cheap Memory Became a Lie

The argument that CXMT’s DDR5 memory is cheaper than the market has been debunked. Prices are on par with Samsung and Micron.

Arguments that China-based DRAM manufacturer CXMT’s DDR5 memories are more affordable than other options on the market do not reflect the truth. Industry representatives state that the pricing of CXMT products is almost at the same level as that of major manufacturers such as Samsung, SK Hynix and Micron.

Interviews with memory manufacturers at the Computex fair reveal the opposite of expectations that CXMT provides a price advantage. The company’s DDR5 solutions are within the price range offered by its global competitors.

Market Strategy and Supply Advantage

CXMT’s main difference in the market comes from its flexibility in supply processes rather than pricing. Since the company does not prioritize artificial intelligence-focused premium solutions such as HBM or SOCAMM, it can allocate more capacity to standard DRAM production.

Global memory manufacturers impose full payment obligations and penalties on their customers to ensure additional supply. CXMT, on the other hand, does not impose such restrictions and creates a more flexible business partner profile for memory manufacturers.

For now, CXMT’s DDR5 technology is considered suitable for entry and mid-range memory modules. Although the company has developed products that reach speeds of 8000 MT/s, it now lags behind its Competitors in premium segments such as CUDIMM, CQDIMM, MRDIMM and CSODIMM.

Memory manufacturers continue to validate CXMT’s DDR5 DRAM assays on their own modules. These products primarily target the Chinese market and are planned to be offered to the global market when more adequate production quality is achieved.

Technological Development and Future Expectations

CXMT aims to double its production capacity with major investments in new factories. The company continues its efforts to alleviate the effects of the DRAM crisis by accelerating the process of entering global markets.

However, in terms of technological processes and production quality, CXMT is still behind giants such as Samsung, SK Hynix and Micron. Therefore, the company is trying to defend its market share by focusing on classic DRAM opportunities for now.

This price stability in the industry shows that competition in the memory market is shaped not only on cost but also on supply continuity and flexibility. This strategy of CXMT creates a valuable alternative for manufacturers, especially in supply chain crises.

How do you think this flexible supply model offered by CXMT will affect the price competition in the memory market in the future?
