Apple is preparing to highlight the artificial intelligence capabilities working on the device and its collaboration with Google at WWDC 2026.
Apple is preparing to highlight the artificial intelligence capabilities working on the device at the World Developers Conference (WWDC) to be held next month. Using its 15 years of custom silicon experience, the company will highlight the advantages of running artificial intelligence models directly on devices instead of the cloud.
It is stated that the chips designed for iPhone, Apple Watch and Mac models provide a valuable competitive advantage in processing artificial intelligence queries locally. Apple positions its system as an alternative to this local process that preserves privacy and reduces costs.
Google Collaboration in Artificial Intelligence Strategy
Within the scope of Apple’s agreement with Google, it is said that Google is using a large version of the Gemini model to develop a smaller model that can run on the device. The company also evaluates startups focusing on model miniaturization technologies such as Liquid AI to increase local device processing capabilities.
While the need for cloud-based processing continues for complex queries, it is stated that Apple will use Nvidia’s closed computing technology through Google Cloud in this process. This security feature offers stronger privacy protection by encrypting data and artificial intelligence models during the process.
This new regulation is considered a deviation from Apple’s initial statements that all cloud-based queries would be executed through its Private Cloud Compute infrastructure. Despite this change, the company is expected to continue using the Private Cloud Compute brand.
A New Beginning with WWDC 2026
The arguments that Google is having difficulty running the full Gemini model with trillions of parameters on its Private Cloud Compute infrastructure also reveal the end of local processing.
Since its announcement in 2024, Apple Intelligence has not fully met expectations due to limited features and delays in the personalized version of Siri.
Apple sees the WWDC 2026 event, which will start on June 8, as an opportunity to reshape this process and introduce delayed features to users.
As part of the event, the company aims to both update its existing artificial intelligence strategy and introduce its new features.
Do you think Apple’s on-device AI strategy will be successful against its cloud-based rivals?
