New Features Coming to Google Messages in April 2026

Google Messages is being updated with the end of Samsung support as of April 2026, Gemini-based fraud detection and new RCS features.

As of April 2026, Google is bringing a number of important innovations to the Google Messages application developed for Android, in both beta and stable versions. Aiming to improve the user experience, the company is making radical changes, especially in the field of RCS protocol and security. In this process, strategic decisions such as gradually discontinuing the Samsung Messages application and switching to a Google Account-based login system instead of QR code matching in the web version stand out. Additionally, Gemini AI-powered fraud detection and advanced location sharing features significantly increase the security and functionality of the platform.

  • Samsung Messages application will be completely replaced by Google Messages as of July.
  • In the web version, the QR code pairing method is removed and account-based login is made mandatory.
  • Gemini-powered new fraud detection system automatically blocks complex messaging threats.
  • The new trash can feature added to the application stores deleted chats for 30 days.

New Tests Continue in Beta Process

Google continues to roll out new tools that customize the messaging experience for beta users. In this context, the “Tap to Draft” feature allows smart replies to be saved as drafts in the text box to prevent them from being sent by mistake.
Additionally, end-to-end encrypted RCS communication between iPhone and Android devices has begun to be tested.

The circular design of the read receipts and the long-press menu offer a more modern interaction in the interface.

Important Features Added to Stable Version

The trash folder, one of the most awaited updates by users, is now available in the stable version.
This feature allows accidentally deleted messages to be recovered for 30 days. In addition, the real-time location sharing feature was introduced integrated with the Find Hub infrastructure.

The @mention feature, which is used to attract attention in group chats, is now officially available to all users.
Advanced fraud detection supported by Gemini Nano warns users to prevent sneaky methods, especially investment fraud.

Google’s messaging platform uses artificial intelligence as a shield against increasing security threats.
