Mercedes-AMG introduced the GLE 63 S and GLS 63 models with the new M177 EVO V8 engine. All the technical details of the new 603 horsepower SUVs are in our news.
Mercedes announced the new generation V8 engine developed for the well-known SUV models GLE 63 S and GLS 63. These new power units promise higher efficiency and reaction time while maintaining the performance values offered by previous models.
Mercedes-AMG introduced the most powerful members of the updated GLE and GLS series to the world of technology. These new models take the brand’s thesis in the performance-oriented SUV segment to the next level.
New M177 EVO Engine and Hybrid Support
The new GLE 63 S and GLS 63 models use the 4.0-liter twin-turbo M177 EVO V8 engine, which we encountered for the first time in the updated S-Class. This engine demonstrates impressive performance by producing 603 horsepower and 850 Nm of torque.
In addition to the power unit, it is accompanied by a 48-volt mild hybrid system and an integrated starter generator. This system supports driving dynamics by providing the vehicle with an extra 23 horsepower and 205 Nm of torque.

All this power is transferred to the road via the AMG Speedshift TCT nine-speed transmission and the 4Matic+ all-wheel drive system. The system allows the torque to be distributed variably between the wheels.

Performance and Driving Technologies
While the GLE 63 S reaches 0 to 96 km/h in 3.6 seconds, the larger-bodied GLS 63 completes this process in 3.9 seconds. Both models have an electronically terminated top speed of 280 km/h.

The Ride Control+ air suspension system in the vehicles adapts to different driving modes with its adaptive damping feature. Trail mode provides an advantage in off-road conditions by increasing the ground clearance by 2.2 inches, while Sport and Comfort modes bring the vehicle closer to the ground.

AMG Active Ride Control technology improves the handling of these large-sized SUVs by minimizing body movements. The electronically controlled locked rear differential stands out as another important detail that supports cornering performance.
On the visual side, GLE models attract attention with their darkened front grille and reshaped air intakes. While GLS maintains its classic chrome grille structure, it has a more imposing stance with its 23-inch wheel options.
Inside, there is the new AMG Performance steering wheel, available in leather, microfiber or a combination of both. Carbon fiber details and customizable upholstery options complete the luxury perception in the cabin.
