Competition Authority Fines Tire Giants

The Competition Authority imposed administrative fines totaling 3.6 billion TL on many companies in the automotive tire industry. Here are the details and new rules.

The Competition Authority has completed its investigation into many companies operating in the field of automotive tire production and distribution. As a result of the investigations, it was decided to impose administrative fines totaling 3 billion 633 million liras on the companies operating in the department.

In the decision taken by the Authority, companies’ displaying compatible behavior regarding prices, imposing anti-competitive practices on dealers, and committing competition violations regarding the labor market were among the sanctions. During the investigation, the companies’ sales price setting practices for dealers, as well as regional and customer restrictions, were evaluated in detail. In addition, concerted actions regarding price movements among rival companies, sharing of competitively sensitive information in the labor market and practices of not seducing employees were also included in the scope of examination.

New rules were introduced to the sector

The Competition Authority also announced some new obligations to be implemented in the department within the scope of the decision. Accordingly, price lists to be sent to dealers will be prepared with watermarks and announcements cannot be shared collectively.

Dealers will be able to access the systems only through their own user accounts. Companies will need to document that they have implemented the said regulations within three months. What do you think about this development?
