Google Chrome disables well-known blockers such as uBlock Origin with the Manifest V3 update. Here are the details.
With the Manifest V3 transition process on its popular browser Chrome, Google is preparing to take the final step that will completely end the use of content-blocking plug-ins on the internet. This technological transformation, which has been going on for years, necessitates a new permission structure that makes it impossible for many common name blocker tools, especially uBlock Origin, to work. With the Chrome 150 version, due by the end of June 2026, the technical gaps used by users to overcome these restrictions will be closed. This critical update initiates a process that will radically change the browser experience of Chrome users.
Manifest V3 Migration Closes Recent Gaps
In their latest technical statements, Google engineers clearly stated that Manifest V2 plug-ins will no longer be included in any supported Chrome versions. The company argues that this legacy structure is not sustainable due to its complexity and the security vulnerabilities it brings. Especially the fact that many software bugs specific to Manifest V2 have been detected recently was effective in Google accelerating this decision.

Chrome Updates Speed Up the Process
Chrome 150 version, which is expected to be released at the end of June 2026, completely removes the “ExtensionManifestV2Disabled” flag from the system, preventing users from taking advantage of legal loopholes. Although a limited developer tool system remains, this formula does not offer a practical solution for daily use. Subsequently, the Chrome 151 update, which will arrive in July 2026, will complete the process permanently by clearing all remaining old configuration flags.
This change will not be limited to Chrome. Other well-known Chromium-based browsers are also expected to adopt these new standards followed by Google. Browsers such as Microsoft Edge and Opera will directly feel the effects of these updates due to the similarity of technical infrastructure. Although Google states that other browsers can choose their own path, standardization across the industry seems inevitable.

Users Are Seeking Alternative Assays
This degree of restriction of ad blocking technologies has become a major topic of discussion among internet users. Many users state that they are addicted to these tools, especially for their privacy and anti-tracking features. While this step by Google will redefine the balance between internet advertising and user privacy, it will also take the competition in the browser market to a different dimension.
