Microsoft took an important step for Windows 11 updates. It is now possible to postpone mandatory updates indefinitely. Here are the details.
Microsoft announced a critical change that Windows 11 users have been waiting for a long time, giving users full control over forced Windows updates. According to the statement made by the company on its official blog page, users will now be able to postpone updates as long as they wish in 35-day periods. This feature, which aims to eliminate the inconvenience caused by sudden updates in the middle of a meeting or during an important gaming session, provides great convenience especially for professional users and gamers. This flexibility in update management is considered one of the most important Windows 11 updates that Microsoft developed by taking user feedback into account.
Update Processes Are Becoming More Flexible
As Microsoft stated in its announcement signed by Aria Hanson, the basis of this radical change lies in the problem of users not being able to manage the update. In the past, users had very limited options for system updates, often resulting in unexpected device reboots. With the new system, when the 35-day postponement period expires, users will be able to continue to postpone the update by resetting this period.
Although Microsoft emphasizes the importance of security updates, it leaves control entirely to the user’s decision.
Users Take Complete Control
In addition to the update postponement feature, Microsoft offers new interface improvements so that Windows 11 users can turn off or restart their devices without installing an update. These improvements are a continuation of previous updates that allowed skipping updates during Windows device installation. The company states that these new features are being gradually rolled out to users in the Dev and Experimental channels who are currently enrolled in the Windows Insider program.
Do you think leaving Windows updates completely to user control poses security risks, or is this freedom a necessary step for operating systems? You can share your thoughts with us in the comments section.
