Chery and Bosch Joined Forces for 48V Vehicle Architecture

Chery and Bosch Joined Forces for 48V Vehicle Architecture

Historical cooperation from Chery and Bosch! All the details about the 48V vehicle architecture that will shape the future of automotive are here.

The automotive industry is undergoing a historic transformation at the intersection of electrification and autonomous driving technologies. In this period when vehicles are turning into “smart computers on wheels” rather than just mechanical machines, traditional hardware has to give way to high-tech infrastructures.

In line with this vision, Chery, China’s undisputed leader in automotive exports, has signed a historic strategic cooperation with industry giant Bosch on 48V vehicle architecture. The signing ceremony held in Beijing in April 2026 and the Beijing Auto Show (Auto China 2026) held immediately after it are not only a reflection of the 25-year strong bond between the two companies, but also prove that the global automotive ecosystem has been completely renewed.

Exceeding the Limits of 12V Systems: Why 48V?

As a technology editor, I can easily say that; Today, automobiles have turned into walking data centers with huge touch screens, smart cockpits with high processing power, artificial intelligence-supported in-car information processing systems and “by-wire” (electronically controlled) chassis technologies. The ever-increasing energy demand of all these high-performance components is already pushing the physical power limits of traditional 12V electrical systems, which have been the industry standard for decades. In order to overcome this bottleneck, 48V electrical architecture becomes an absolute necessity rather than a “luxury” or “option” for the industry.

The new 48V architecture, developed by Chery and Bosch by restructuring the basic electrical systems of smart vehicles, has clear advantages that can be considered a “game changer” in the technology world. Thanks to the system, the power capacity of the vehicle is increased to a significant level of 15 kW, while the total weight of the architecture is reduced by more than 10 kilograms. This directly contributes positively to the efficiency and range of electric vehicles.

Driving dynamics are recreated by increasing the response speed of the engine in the “steer-by-wire” (electronic steering) system, which eliminates traditional mechanical connections, by more than 20 percent. More importantly, a completely independent, redundant power supply design has been integrated into the system so that vital functions such as autonomous driving, steering and emergency braking can operate uninterruptedly even in the most extreme conditions. Companies herald that this infrastructure can be adapted to brand new fields such as robotics in the future.

25 Years of Trust, 18 Months of Intensive R&D and EXEED

The quarter-century technology partnership between Chery and Bosch bears one of its most tangible fruits with this project. The two giant companies signed a memorandum of understanding on the 48V low voltage system in October 2024 and established a special preliminary research team. As a result of 18 months of meticulous and intense R&D work; Feasibility studies regarding the development of vehicle systems, prototyping of critical components and industrial production processes were successfully completed. This innovative infrastructure, which was made ready for mass production, was first developed by Chery’s assertive brand in the premium segment. In EXEED’s flagship modelIt is planned to be used.

Global Transformation Message from Leaders

The leaders, who shared their visions at the signing ceremony held in Beijing with the participation of full senior executives (Gao

Chery Chairman of the Board Yin Tongyue said, “We continue to see technological innovation as our main driving force. This project is a very important step towards building a technology ecosystem for the global market and leading the transformation of electrical architectures.” He underlined that their goal is not only to produce automobiles but also to manage the ecosystem.

Chairman of the Board of Directors of Robert Bosch GmbH, Dr. Stefan Hartung gave a strong message to the industry by saying, “This signature is proof that our 25-year partnership has reached a new level. By combining Bosch’s production experience in low voltage systems with Chery’s vehicle development and market power, we will scale the mass production of 48V vehicles at an unmatched speed.”

“AiMOGA” and the Future in the Global Ecosystem

All these steps are just part of the strategy that Chery will center at the April 2026 Beijing Auto Show and Chery International Business Summit. The brand operates with the motto “Global Innovation System No Complacency”; While OMODA & JAECOO deepens its product range globally, AiMOGAWith its strategy, it integrates artificial intelligence into the center of real life.

In summary, the rules are being rewritten in the automotive industry. Chery and Bosch cooperation prepares not only the heart but also the entire technological nervous system of our vehicles for a perfect future with 48V architecture. We will see together in the coming months how the Competitors in the industry will respond to this powerful technology alliance.
